Last week Urban@UW’s Director Rachel Berney and Program Manager Kate Landis presented on the Research to Action Collaboratory at Climate Week NYC, as a guest of the New York Climate Exchange. Leaders from all sectors met on Governors Island, just south of Manhattan, to discuss climate adaptations, potential partnerships, and new technology in carbon reduction. Berney and Landis reported on Urban@UW’s innovative Research to Action Collaboratory approach and teams .
The Research to Action Collaboratory was developed by Berney and Jen Davison, RAC Co-Directors, as an incubator for university-community research teams. These transdisciplinary teams are tackling complex urban problems through the combined wisdom of embedded local leaders and scholars and students from across the university. The Research to Action Collaboratory brings these diverse teams together to build skills in communication, project management, and conflict negotiation. The RAC also provides the flexible funding teams need to innovate.
The response to the RAC presentation was overwhelmingly positive and enthusiastic. While in New York, Urban@UW staff engaged with presenters from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, major foundations, research universities, and nonprofit leaders, and looks forward to building those relationships.
